Maitre de Chai, Old-Vine Zinfandel - Stampede Vineyard 2022

Availability: In stock

THE LIGHTER SHADE OF ZIN

+ GRAPE: 100% old-vine Zinfandel. Practicing organic. Grown in Lodi, California.

+ PROFILE: Medium body, which is surprising out the gate. Violets on the nose, followed by blue plum, black raspberry and a granitic minerality. Bright acidity keeps things in balance. This is a textural, joyous Zinfandel. Needs a little bit of time to open up.

+ PAIRINGS: Roasted poultry, Cubano sandwich, butternut squash, roasted root vegetables, cruciferous greens.

+ FUNDAMENTALS: All wild yeast and a mix of whole-cluster and destemmed grapes vinified in open-top fermenters. Aged exclusively in 500L puncheons for 14 months before being bottled without fining or filtration.

+ FOR THE 'POINT CURIOUS': Vinous/Antonio Galloni - 93 Points
"The 2023 Zinfandel from the Stampede Vineyard is a powerful, deep wine. Varietal notes are dialed up to the maximum in this rich, heady red. Small berries in a late-ripening vintage yielded an unusually dense Zinfandel for this vineyard on the eastern edge of Lodi. The 2023 spent 11 months in neutral 500L puncheons, with no racking until bottling."

VIA MAITRE DE CHAI
This vintage marks Eleven years of working with the Perlegos Family. Harvested on September 3rd and fermented with native yeasts in a mix of whole cluster and de-stemmed open top fermentations. Aged in a mix of 500L puncheons and neutral casks for 11 months before being bottled with no fining or filtration. The finesse of this wine makes it drinkable now, but will age for years to come.
