Wunder-winemaker and terroirist, Randall Grahm, is in a perpetual state of experimentation. California's 'Rhone Ranger' heads to Burgundy for inspiration this time, producing a California-bred Aligote with a decidedly French accent.
+ GRAPE: 100% Aligote Dorée. Organic. Grown in the Calleri Vineyard within San Benito County, in central California. This variant of the Aligote grape is low-yielding and rare.
+ PROFILE: Dry, medium body, textural, super-crisp acidity. Lemon zest, white flowers, and a subtle hint of green apple and white peach are a precursor to savory minerals and a looong, lovely finish.
+ FUNDAMENTALS: Neutral, used barrel for fermentation using only wild yeast. Unfined, unfiltered, vegan. Low sulfites.
In The Words Of The Winemaker:
'Aligoté is a noble variety provenant of Burgundy, producing wines of bracing natural acidity, savory, mineral lusciousness, with typical notes of citrus, flowers and peach; it's currently just waiting to have its moment. The 'golden' or old-fangled, shyer yielding biotype or variant of Aligoté, is particularly priced as it is rare, especially in these parts. This wine has not been filtered.' - RG
